A novel has 2 volumes. The first volumes is 14 mm thick and has 282 pages. If the the second volume has 316 pages, estimate the total thickness of the two books. The answer is 30 mm. Although I knew the answer, but I don't know the steps. Thank You So Much!!

Since each piece of paper (i.e., page of a book) has 2 sides, the thickness of a book corresponds to the total paes divided by two. Volume A: 14 mm for 282/2=141 pieces of paper Volume B: x mm for 316/2=158 pieces of paper. x can be found by 14mm/141*158=16mm Therefore, the two volumes together is 14+16=30 mm.
